Gwen | Class of 2021 | Stargate Charter School | Thornton Senior Photographer
As a fellow letterman myself (cough-nobigdeal-cough) I completely understood when Stargate Charter School Senior, Gwen, told me she wanted one of her outfit changes to include her purple and blue school jacket. Not only did I think this was a great idea, but I was also thrilled. I love when seniors bring me a vision for their session!
Gwen made the day so fun to shoot because she brought me a lot to work with – including her Brittany Spaniel, Chip! (Not gonna lie, anytime someone wants to include their pup in their session, those photos usually turn out to be my favorites. Who doesn’t love puppies?)
(Side note: In my opinion, all dogs are puppies – no matter how old they are. Don’t @ me.)
Beyond loving her pup, Gwen is an honor roll student who plays clarinet in the school band. She plans to follow in her parents’ footsteps and attend Colorado University where she’ll major in Business with an entrepreneurship focus.
In a senior session, my main goal is to showcase the ways in which you’ve grown from a sweet, newbie Freshman to a confident, well-rounded Senior. So, bring it on! The instruments, the jerseys, the jackets, the awards, the pets… whatever you’ve got; we’ll work it in!
(Side note: You may be asking…”Wait a second, her letter jacket has a large MR on it. What’s the deal?” Great question! Since Stargate Charter School doesn’t have an actual marching band, Gwen actually is a part of the Mountain Range High School Band which graciously allowed a student from another school come play with them. Because of this she lettered at Mountain Range as well.)
When I asked Gwen what her favorite part of her session with me was, she said:
I enjoyed that you were flexible with all the changes I had and that you were able to make me feel a little more comfortable while taking my pictures.
— Coincidentally, Gwen’s flexibility, personality, and willingness to try different ideas were what made the session great for me, too!
One last fun fact: I happen to play on the Eagle Trace Women’s golf league with Gwen’s mother, Anne. I also took their fall family photos in October 2019. I also had the pleasure of working with them when I shot their family photos last fall.
When Gwen asked me to take her Senior photos, I jumped at the opportunity, knowing Gwen would be a wonderful subject and knock it out of the park. Not to brag, but – boy, was I right. 😉
