Sheri & Damon | Wedgewood Black Forest Wedding
Colorado Springs Wedding Photographer
Sheri & Damon’s Wedding at Wedgewood Black Forest in Colorado Springs over last New Year’s weekend was such a fun and sweet event. I first met Sheri & Damon when a fellow photographer friend recommended my services for their upcoming wedding. We met in person at a local coffee shop to discuss their plans and learn more about this amazing couple.
Damon is an engineer and Sheri is an elementary school teacher. They met through mutual friends through the church they both attend in Colorado Springs. I could tell that both of them were very kind, giving people and their faith played a large role in both of their lives. Their friends and family are also very important to them which was evident in the speech’s that the Maid of Honor and Best Man gave.
The day started off with everyone arriving at Wedgewood Black Forest for the getting ready photos. Sheri and her bridesmaids had arrived first and I didn’t hesitate to start photographing the bridal details such as her dress, shoes, and jewelry. I also managed to get some fun shots of them just hanging out and enjoying the day. While that was taking place, Damon and his groomsmen were getting ready in the room that’s behind the alter inside the event center. The guys were also enjoying themselves with some beers and appetizers as they were getting dressed and waiting for the ceremony to start.
Sheri & Damon decided to do a “First Look” by themselves which meant that we could get all of their bridal party and couple’s portraits ahead of time. After they spent a few minutes alone together, the entire bridal party headed outside to the forest area behind the event center. December in Colorado is actually quite nice. Anyone that has lived here long enough knows that March and April are our snowiest months and we usually don’t need heavy jackets to head outside. This day was no exception either.
We managed to get all of the Bride & Bridesmaid’s portraits, the Groom & Groomen’s portriats, and the entire Bridal Party portraits done. Everyone was a good sport and we got so many great shots of them together. After that we moved on to the couple’s portraits where I got to spend some time with Sheri & Damon one-on-one. They are both very sweet people and I could Damon felt incredibly proud to soon call Sheri his wife.
The ceremony took place inside and Wedgewood Black Forest has a cute chapel for those occasions. They had a very beautiful ceremony where their faith was re-emphasized with them both taking communion. Sheri & Damon also had a nice moment when they went to light the with a unity candle to signify the joining of their lives. Again, they were surrounded by plenty of family and friends that were very honored to be included in their union.
After the ceremony we took a few additional bridal party photos and then moved on to family photos. Since it was winter, that meant it was already dark outside when the ceremony started. So all of the family photos were taken at the alter. We also managed to get a few pictures of Sheri & Damon signing their marriage license in the bridal suite. Now that the family photos were done, it was time to get the reception started.
During dinner, I managed to get Sheri & Damon’s rings and her bouquet so I could take a few detail shots. Another photo that they really wanted was a picture of a stuffed bird that they had sitting at the bar. Apparently, it was an inside joke that Damon shared with his groomsmen and he even donned a tie and top hat for the occasion.
After dinner, the Maid of Honor and Best Man, and a few other bridal party members, gave some very touching toasts to the couple only emphasizing what kind-hearted people Sheri & Damon are. After toasts, they moved to the formal dances and then on to cut their cake from Garden of the Gods Catering. Sheri also had some special “gluten-free” desserts for her and anyone else who preferred gluten-free dessert. The night was then free for everyone to start dancing the night away. It was a great way to end the perfect day for them.
Sheri & Damon, I am overjoyed that I got to be there to witness the beginning of your lives together. I am even more excited that you will soon be expecting a little family member in the next month. Thank you so much for being so amazing and I know each day together will just get better and better.
